Acton Food Festival

Torrential downpours didn’t dampen the spirits of people at the Acton Food Festival, which took place on September 5, 6, and 7th 2008.  The three-day Food Festival featured stall holders selling food from throughout the world, including Japanese sushi, Vietnamese noodles, Caribbean and delicious English cakes. The Mayor of Ealing, Councillor Ian Green opened the festival on Friday and foodies were treated to jazz music from Dick Laurie and the Elastic Band, local Brazilian dance troupe Ginga Mundo and a drumming workshop from Shanks Putwain on Sunday.  There were also face painters and balloons for children.

Many of the usual Acton Market traders were at the Food Festival, joined by other hot food traders.  Some local businesses such as Kalinka Restaurant on Churchfield Road and Breeze from the Sea Mediterranean deli on Horn Lane also showed off their delicious menus.

Acton Market Project Manager John Kester says the Acton Food Festival was a great success and showed how Acton’s Market Square can be a vibrant shopping centre for the community in and around Acton.

“The success of the 2008 Acton Food Festival shows that the community enjoys and participates in events like this,” says Kester.  “We are definitely hoping to make this an annual event.”
